Kingaru

Sleep at sea, made to the exact shape of the boat.

Kingaru makes custom mattresses, cushions and bedding for yachts, where no berth is rectangular, humidity never leaves and everything has to fit through a hatch.

The challenge

What we walked into.

Boat berths are curved, angled and never standard. Owners were stuck choosing between a foam block cut badly in a local workshop or a shipyard quote with a refit price tag.

The marine environment punishes shortcuts: salt, humidity, mildew and constant movement destroy materials that are perfectly fine in a house.

On a boat, close enough is not a fit. Every berth has its own geometry.

How we built it

The approach.

  1. Step 1

We turned measuring into a process an owner or captain can run themselves, with templates and clear guidance instead of a site visit halfway across the world.

  2. Step 2

We selected materials for the marine reality: breathable cores, covers that survive humidity, and constructions that go through a hatch and open up inside.

  3. Step 3

We built a made-to-order production flow where every piece is cut to the boat's own shape, without a shipyard lead time.

  4. Step 4

We set up the commercial side around the yachting calendar: refits, deliveries and season changeovers, where the demand actually sits.

  5. Step 5

We shaped the brand for a demanding audience: precise, understated, and honest about what it costs.

Where it stands

What it became.

Kingaru gives owners, captains and yards a way to order maritime bedding that fits perfectly, without a shipyard invoice attached.

The made-to-measure model became the brand: every order is one boat, one shape, one set of specifications.

What we took away

Lessons that travel.

  • Niche products win on precision, not on price.

  • If measuring is hard, the customer never orders. Simplify the first step and the rest follows.

  • In maritime, timing follows the season. Sell into the refit window or wait a year.
